Aadhaar Card is a very important document for Indian Citizens. This document acts as an address identification proof for the cardholder. It is used widely for this purpose for every type of form filling and banks and other areas where the Aadhaar card is required. When registering for Aadhaar card you need to provide the address proof to verify your address but in case we do not have a valid address proof that has the present address then it can be problematic.
CEO of UIDAI, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, said that those who do not have an address proof can update their address with UIDAI online through a letter. In this article, we will provide you with the step by step guide on how to update Aadhaar card online without valid address proof.

The following are the address proof that can be used when applying for the Aadhaar card
- Passport
- Bank Statement/ Passbook
- Post Office Account Statement/Passbook
- Ration Card
- Voter ID
- Driving License
- Government Photo ID cards
- Electricity Bill (not older than 3 months)
- Water bill (not older than 3 months)
- Telephone Landline Bill (not older than 3 months)
- Property Tax Receipt (not older than 1 year)
- Credit Card Statement (not older than 3 months)
- Insurance Policy
- Signed Letter having Photo from Bank on letterhead
- Signed Letter having Photo issued by registered Company on letterhead
- Signed Letter having Photo issued by Recognized Educational Institutions on letterhead
- NREGS Job Card
- Arms License
- Pensioner Card
- Freedom Fighter Card
- Kissan Passbook
- CGHS / ECHS Card
- Certificate of Address having photo issued by MPor MLA or Gazetted Officer or Tehsildar on letterhead
- Certificate of Address issued by Village Panchayat head
- Income Tax Assessment Order
- Vehicle Registration Certificate
- Registered Sale / Lease / Rent Agreement
- Address Card having Photo issued by Department of Posts
- Caste and Domicile Certificate having Photo issued by State Govt.
- Disability ID card/handicapped medical certificate issued by respective State/UT Governments/Administrations
- Gas Connection Bill (not older than 3 months)
- Passport of Spouse Supported PoR Documents containing Relationship details to Head of Family
- Allotment letter of accommodation issued by Central/State government of not more than 3 years old
- Marriage Certificate Issued by the Government containing the address
Update Aadhaar Card Online Without Valid Address Proof
If you do not have any of the above-mentioned documents that prove your residence then you can still apply for the Aadhaar card by taking the permission of the owner of the resident. This can be done by providing the Address Validation Letter which is sent via Indian Post to the validating address. This letter contains a code that validates the address. To request for this type of address verification you need to follow these steps-
- Visit the Aadhaar Validation letter portal by clicking on the link
- Enter your 12 Digit Aadhaar number or the Virtual ID followed by solving the Captcha
- An OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number and click on the login button
- Now enter your Aadhaar Card details of the address verifier and click Send Request
- The address verifier will receive the Service Request Number or SRN via SMS, the SMS also contains a Link that can be used to type the SRN. This ensures that the verifier has provided his consent that the he is willing to provide his address.
- Now you have to update your address and submit the request of change of address
Note-The address verifier can provide at least 5 people with the address in a year.
