National Highway Authority of India or NHAI recently upgraded the toll collection system by introducing RFID sensors at the toll plazas.
These toll plazas will collect the payment from a vehicle online using the FASTag device installed on your vehicle.
The Government has made FASTag devices mandatory for all vehicles eligible for toll taxes and if the device is not installed on your vehicle then you’ll have to pay twice the toll tax amount.
NHAI also released a list of vendors who are eligible to facilitate the customers with FASTag devices. State Bank Of India is one such vendor where you can get a FASTag device.

How Does FASTag Device Works?
FASTag devices use RFID sensors that get attached to your vehicle to collect toll tax. Now, this device is directly linked to a wallet-based vendor who maintains your account.
Whenever you scan the RFID Based FASTag device using a scanner, your wallet account linked with your FASTag device gets debited with the toll tax amount.
All of these transactions happen in seconds and via electronic means which prevents any human contact.

- Vehicle Registration Certificate
- SBI FASTag Application form filled
- passport-size photograph of the Vehicle owner
- KYC Documents like Aadhaar Card, Driver’s License, Passport, etc.
How to apply for SBI FASTag?
The following are the step by step instructions required for applying SBI FASTag-
- SBI FASTag can be obtained by visiting the nearest POS/Agent Location and filling the application form for SBI FASTag
- After reaching the POS/ Agent location, ask the bank representative for application
- Now, attach all the documents mentioned above along with the application form and submit the documents to the bank representative
- After the verification of documents and the application form, you’ll receive the FASTag device at your home via Post
- Now, install the SBI FASTag on your vehicle followed by activating the device for using it
- Along with the FASTag device, you’ll also receive a password to access your RFID account online to recharge and balance check

How to Install FASTag on your Car?
You can install the FASTag device on your car by following the step by step instructions below-
- Once you receive the RFID device, open your car and clear the windshield from inside just below the back mirror
- Make sure the windscreen transparent side is being used for RFID installation
- Now, clean the surface followed by peeling off the sticker
- The RFID device has a sticker based installation so attach the device to the windscreen below the back mirror in the center of the windscreen
- Make sure you’ve attached the sticky side to the windscreen also the installation of the device should be done from the inside of the vehicle, not the outside
- Your installation of the RFID based SBI FASTag is complete
FAQ
If the RFID is not being read at the toll plaza then you can demand the official for manual scanners, if still, the device is not working then you can contact customer care regarding the issue.
If the problem is with the NHAI sensors and not your device then the NHAI officials are directed by the law to not charge toll fees via cash.
If your FASTag balance is nil or low then you have to pay the toll plaza fee in cash only or recharge FASTag for payment of the toll fee.
SBI FASTag comes with a guarantee of 3 years and validity of lifetime. Your FASTag device will only be replaceable if the device is damaged or lost which is highly unlikely. You can also surrender your FASTag if you want
No, you cannot use one FASTag for two vehicles, one FASTag is registered to one vehicle only.
You can contact customer care regarding any incorrect deduction and NHAI will try to resolve your incorrect deduction.
Yes, you can avail monthly pass but this pass is only applicable to certain toll plazas and can be availed by visiting certain POS locations. Some banks also provide monthly passes at certain locations.
If your SBI FASTag is damaged then you can request SBI to replace your FASTag. Your old FASTag will become un-operational and you’ll be issued with a new FASTag device and the balance on your old device will be transferred to your new device.
