What is a FASTag device?
FASTag device uses RFID technology to pay the toll tax online. When you reach the toll plaza, the scanner will scan your FASTag device and locate your online FASTag account, and deducts the toll amount. Using this technology, the user can save a lot of fuel, time, and effort by fast processing of the toll deduction.
How to Apply for the FASTag device?
The following are the step-by-step instructions to apply for the Indian Overseas Bank FASTag device-
- Visit the official Indian Overseas Bank FASTag device portal and click on the new registration button followed by entering the CIF number and solving the captcha
- Now, click on the generate OTP button and enter the OTP in the given field
- After confirming the OTP, a form will appear which you’ll have to fill with details like vehicle registration number, chassis number, year of make, etc.
- Now, upload the RC or Registration Certificate of your Vehicle and click on the submit button
- After clicking on the submit button, a payment portal will appear where you’ll have to pay for the FASTag device purchase including the deposit amount mentioned below
- After successful payment, you’ll receive a success message and your FASTag device will be sent to your address via post

FAQ
The toll operator cannot force you to pay for the toll tax in cash given you have sufficient balance in your account and you are in the FASTag lane. If the toll scanner of the toll plaza is not working then by law, the toll plaza operator must give you a free pass.
Although most of the toll plaza in India has been installed with the FASTag scanners still some of the lanes do not have the scanner installed therefore, you have to avoid those lanes before entering them.
If you want to sell your vehicle then first you have to remove your FASTag device and surrender your FASTag device to the bank. FASTag device is a non-transferrable device and is unique to that person only.
After you’ve surrendered your FASTag device then your deposit amount will be returned to you.
FASTag device has unlimited validity till the tag is readable and is not tampered with. The general wear and tear of the device depreciate it.
