A driving Licence is an important document that is required by everyone who wants to drive a vehicle. It is mandatory by the law to carry the Driving Licence to prove that you are eligible for driving the vehicle. It is also a document that can be used as identity proof which can be used in numerous. According to the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 No individual is allowed to drive a vehicle in a public place without a valid driving license, and doing so will be an offensive act that will result in imprisonment and a fine. It is very easy to apply for a driving license online which can apply online using the transport department online portal.

Eligibility for Learner Licence
The following is the eligibility for applying the Learner licence-
- Age limit- 18 years or above
- You can apply for a license for 16 years of age for the vehicle less than 50CC engine capacity
- Physically fit to drive vehicle
- Mentally stable for operating the vehicle
- Knowledge of basic vehicle controls and traffic rules
Document Required for Learner Licence
The following documents are required for the Learner Licence test-
- Residence proof- attested copy of any of the following:
- Ration card
- Life Insurance Policy
- Port
- Voter Identity card
- Pay slip issued by any office in the Central/State or a local body
- The Post office or Bank Pass Book indicating the residential address
- House tax receipt
- House allotment letter issued by Estate Officer or DDA etc.
- Certificate from employer in case of Government Servant.
- Accident Life insurance Policy
- Marriage certificate issued by designated Magistrate
- Income tax Returns
- Residence Certificate issued by the District Administration.
- Age Proof attested copies of any of the following :
- School certificate
- Passport
- Birth Certificate
- Certificate from Central/State Govt. or a local body
- Identity card/voter list
- PAN of Income
- Tax card
- Other authentic proof which is acceptable by M.L.O.
- Application for learner license with passport size photograph
- Medical certificate (required in case of commercial licenses)
- Learner license form with photographs
- Self-declaration of Medical fitness

How to Apply For Learner Licence Test
You can apply for the Learner license test by following these steps-
- Visit the official Sarthi website that will provide you with a drop-down option to choose your state
- After choosing your state, the page will be refreshed with the RTO office selection option
- Find your nearest RTO Office from the dropdown option
- You will be redirected to the state RTO page where you will be provided with many options
- Select the Apply online option and select the New Learner’s Licence and click on the continue
- Now you will be asked with three option since you do not have DL/LL license yet, therefore, you will be required to select the topmost option and click on Submit
- Now an application form will be opened which will ask you with all the details. Fill those details and select submit
- Now you have to upload the document provided above and after that your Photo and signature. If you have submitted the Aadhaar card then you only have to upload the photo.
- Now you have to select the desired slot based on your convenience to visit the transport authority for the LL test
- Now the last step consists of fee payment which can be done using the Net Banking or any payment gateway.
- You have to download every document that every step provides you with like the payment receipt, Application form, etc.
Learner licence test
The learner license test consists of two tests that are taken to ensure that you are physically and mentally fit for operating the vehicle and is sound of the traffic signals. It ensures that no accident will happen just because of a lack of knowledge of a certain sign or board. The very first test is the color test which is used to determine that your eyes are fit to distinguish colors. This is a card test with dotted color-forming digits, letters, or patterns. The second test is the computer test that requires you to answer the MCQ Based question based on the road signs and traffic signs. After passing this test you will be provided with the Learner Licence test immediately.

- It is required by the Driving license applicant to present while giving the Driving Licence test

The following are the eligibility condition for applying for the Driving license-
- You should have a valid learner license
- You should apply after 30 days and within 180 days from the date of issuance of learner license.
- You should be conversant about the vehicle systems, driving, traffic rules, and regulations.

- Original learner’s licence.
- Application Form 4
- Proof of age and residence
- One recent passport size photograph
- Form No.5 (in case of commercial licence)
- The vehicles for which category you are applying the licence.
- Your original licence in case of endorsements of categories.
How to apply for Driving Licence test

- You will be asked with two details like Learner Licence number and DOB fill it and select ok
- Select the desired slot for the Driving Test
- Now you will be required to pay the fee and after fee payment, download the receipt
- After this, you are required to download all the documents along with the Learner license and visit the Transport authority where you have to validate the document
- Now after validating the document you have to visit the RTO Driving Licence test location with your own vehicle and give the test.
Driving Licence
You will be informed whether you are passed the exam or not. If passes you will receive the license within 15 days. If not you are required to give the test again. After receiving the Driver Licence you have to follow the following point to operate the vehicle safely-
- You can now officially drive the vehicle as mentioned in the driving license
- Always were helmet and seat belt while operating two wheelers or four wheelers respectively
- Follow the traffic rules to avid accident and be responsible
- Do not drink and drive
